Letter from the Parish Council Chairman
The District Council is responsible for providing services throughout the Braintree
area paid for by your council tax. They expect however some services in the villages
to be provided by the Parish Council. The cost of these services such as pavement
sweeping and maintenance of public areas is paid by an addition to your council tax
called a precept. It is this precept that White Colne Parish Council has not increased
this year and was only increased last year because BDC changed its accounting basis.
Within Braintree district including Braintree itself there are which are known as
"unparished" and therefore do not suffer a precept but still enjoy a full range of
services funded by the main council tax. In the past to go some way to offset this
imbalance BDC have paid a Parish Support Grant to Parishes such as White Colne. BDC
are looking to cut costs and are planning to withdraw the Parish Support Grant meaning
your council tax will be paying for services available to people in the towns but
not here in White Colne. If you want the same level of service the cost of this will
have to be found by increasing the precept.
We shall be discussing this matter at the next Parish Council meeting so please let your Parish Councillor know your views on this or better still come along to the meeting and tell us and hopefully your District Councillors what you think
Kevin Nolan, Chairman
