The Parish of St Andrew’s forms part of a six parish team comprising  Halstead, Greenstead Green, Gosfield, Earls Colne, Colne Engaine and White Colne. The team vicar, with particular responsibility for the three Colnes, is the Reverend Vivien Brooks who lives at The Rectory, 5 Shut Lane, Earls Colne, telephone 01787 220347. Anyone wishing to speak should call her on this number.

White Colne Parochial Church council which is responsible for the running and financing of the church meets six times a year. The Churchwardens are Terri Streamer terry.streamer@btinternet.com and Christopher Chamberlain  wccw@hotmail.co.uk. Recently the 'friends' of St. Andrew's, White Colne has been set up for those who wish to help with the maintenance of the church and assist with the financing of repair or improvements to the building and churchyard. Any one wishing to become a 'friend' should contact the churchwarden.

Services are held twice a month on the first and third Sundays at 10.30am. In addition festivals such as Easter and Christmas are also celebrated. Those seeking information or help on baptisms, weddings or funerals should contact the vicar or churchwarden. We have a churchyard clearance, church spring and autumn cleaning day to which all are invited to help and are most welcome. The church is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9.00am to 3.00pm.

St. Andrew's origins probably date from the 12th Century with additional works being carried out over the centuries. The spire was added by the Victorians and has currently been re-clad with oak shingles following attacks by the woodpeckers looking for food. This substantial repair work was carried out this year funded by English Heritage, Friends of Essex Churches, Essex Environment Trust, Garfield Weston and the balance from church funds.

The Friends of St. Andrew's, White Colne

continue to provide invaluable moral and financial support to the Church.

As the new Churchwardens of St Andrews we would like to tell you a little about the church and services, as well as the Friends of St Andrew’s.

Other than festivals and special services, we have Sunday morning worship twice a month at 10.30am when of course everyone is welcome. The dates of the actual Sundays may be found on the church notice board. Do come to the service and have a look round your village church and churchyard. Of course other than regular services of worship, services of baptism, weddings and funerals also take place; the churchyard being still open for burials.

The Friends of St Andrew’s is an organisation whose aim is simply to assist the church in financing the upkeep and maintenance of the building and grounds of our historic parish church, and to ensure its survival for future generations.

If you would like to know more about your parish church, including dates and details of services or the work of the ‘Friends then don’t hesitate to email either of us. We will be delighted to hear from you.

Children’s Christmas Service - Sunday 21st December 2015 at 10.30 am.

Each year White Colne Church holds a Christmas service rn entirely by the children. The children do all the readings, some play musical instruments and all the little ones are invited at the end to sing ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’ so as not to leaven them out. It makes for a very special and memorable service. However, many of the children who have taken part over the years are now young adults so we would like to encourage some younger children to get involved.

If your child(ren)/grandchild(ren) would like to be involved or you would like to find out more please contact  me as soon as possible by email  nicola@brookfieldhouse.net or telephone 017787 220108.

Nicola Smith
