50 Club needs volunteers
The 50 Club has been run for the last few years by Jean and Colin Armstrong who took over from founder Kelly Adams who had worked tirelessy for many years.. The Club has played a vital part in raising money for village facilities by matching funds in grant applications.
The time has come when Jean and Colin would like to pass over the 50 Club work to new volunteers or at least receive some help from others.
So do you have any time to spare? Nobody wants to see the 50 Club close through lack
of volunteers so please think very carefully about this -
News about The Village Hall
As I write this the Main Hall is being redecorated. The work is being carried out by local White Colne builder Nick of NB Property Improvements. We are very grateful to Nick who is supplying his time free of charge. Nick will undertake all types of building work and you can contact him on 01787 220379 or 07961 773988. We are fortunate that the Quiz night in February raised sufficient money to purchase the materials required for the redecoration.
Work is planned to start on refurbishing the toilets at the Hall in October. The refurbishment will also provide a disabled toilet facility. The works to the toilets is being funded by a grant from Essex County Council, Village Hall receipts, 50 Club and Parish Council Funds. Some of the decoration and tiling works will be undertaken by volunteers to keep the costs to a minimum. The redecoration and refurbishment works will further improve the Village Hall which is available to hire by contacting our volunteer bookings secretary, Jean Armstrong on 221811.
If you would like to become involved in helping out with small ‘jobs’ around the hall we would like to hear from you as many hands make light work!
Please contact Sarah Adlem, Chairman of the Village Hall Committee.
In the past few weeks there have been a few occurrences of the following:-
Burglary Dwelling:
In the local vicinity of Kelvedon, entry was gained to a dwelling house by removing a pane of glass from the rear bedroom window and jewellery was taken. Please note that this is the third offence in that area since 25th August.
Please consider leaving an outside light on at your property or installing a 'motion' security light at the front and rear. If you need Crime Prevention Advice on your property contact your local Crime Prevention Advisor or Clive Stewart Essex Watch Administrator who will pass your request to him to contact you.
ATM Skimming device:
Two incidents at a local Bank in the same area (Kelvedon) one at 17:45 on 12th September and the second at 17:35 on 13th September. At both incidents the card retained by the skimming device was later used to withdraw large amounts of cash. Two males (Asian/ Eastern European) and a female were seen at the second offence and they were using a green Hyundai ACCENT. If anyone has information please can they call 0300 333 4444.
Please remember that it is important to check the cash dispenser machine before inserting your card.
Why not consider using a local retailer which offers Cash Back facilities as an alternative to receive cash?
Purse and personal property stolen in Witham.
At around 12:30pm on August 22, an elderly woman’s handbag with her purse inside, containing cash and documents was stolen from her wheeled shopping buggy.
Purses stolen in Braintree:
On 22nd August between 10:45am and 11:50 hrs two women had their purses stolen containing cash, cards and documents from her shopping bag which was by her feet, in Market Place, and also Bank Street Braintree.
PLEASE CAN EVERYONE REMEMBER THE FOLLOWING KEYS POINTS TO KEEP YOUR PERSONAL VALUABLES
SAFE
Firstly NEVER let your handbag out of your sight. Carry it in front of you –
especially if you’re walking through a shop or a town centre.
Secondly, AVOID carrying
large amounts of cash, and if your purse or wallet is in a bag, ensure that your
bag is securely zipped up.
Thirdly, KEEP your purse or wallet safe at all times. Don’t
leave it in your shopping basket, on restaurant or coffee tables, or on shop counters.
Theft
can happen very quickly, and you may not notice you’ve been a victim until you next
have to make a purchase.
Finally if someone knocks or bumps into you, check that they have not taken your purse or wallet out of your bag or pocket.
Keep all personal items secure especially inside your closed jackets or coats.
